Ryan, Cole, and I- November, 2010
I am Heather, mama to two boys, Ryan age 11, and Cole age 9.
When I have spare time, I enjoy blogging (of course!) running, reading, gardening, hiking, cycling, cooking, and learning about health and fitness. I work for an accounting firm, doing bookkeeping and business management.
I have an on-line store, Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs, I started when my kids were babies. I don’t have a lot of time anymore to work with it, but it specializes in babies, kids, maternity, and women’s wear-mostly t-shirts and onesies.
Having had a c-section with Ryan, and having a terrible experience with it, I became interested in writing aobut C-sections, and VBAC birth (vaginal birth after cesarean). After a lot of research, seeking out a supportive OB, practice, and doula, I was thrilled that I was able to have a successful VBAC with my second son, Cole. I am a huge supporter and believer that VBAC’s are possible, and safe (in most cases). It was an amazing, and powerful experience for me.
In April of 2009, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, which had spread to my lymph nodes in my neck. I underwent a thyroidectomy and neck dissection in June, 2009, and received radioactive iodine therapy in August, 2009. I have quite a few blog posts about thyroid cancer, low iodine diet, hypothyroidism, radioactive iodine therapy, and cancer recovery under the category, Cancer.
In November 2009, The American Cancer Society asked me to serve on their newly founded Blogger Advisory Council. I felt this would be an excellent way for me to use blogging and my own cancer experience to help others.
I mainly wanted to start a blog so I could keep track of the daily happenings with my boys, and our life in general. The time goes by so fast, and this is helping me slow down and savor each day. On the days I can write, preserve a little sliver of time, that one day I can look back on and share with my children.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog as well, and always feel free to leave a comment. You can also send me a private e-mail. You can also find and follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and the Choose You Blog.
