Last night, I ventured out to the Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash with three of my friends, and fellow bloggers. Amy, from Crunchy Domestic Goddess, Melissa from Nature Deva, and Julie from ChezArtz.
Amy, Melissa, Julie, and I were all friends before we were bloggers, so this was a great chance to catch up with each other, mingle with other bloggers, and watch the Obama speech. We took the bus downtown, which is the first time I have ever taken public transportation anywhere. I’m glad Amy’s husband, and Melissa could figure out bus schedules!
We arrived at the bash a few minutes before the speech started, and I met Amber from Mile High Mama’s in person. I was a guest blogger there in June, so it was wonderful to meet her!
When it was time for the speech to start we all crammed in a room to watch. I am not a big political person, but Sen. Obama gave a terrific speech. It was very interesting to hear his thoughts and ideas. He had some great humor in there too, and I think this was probably one of the best speech deliveries I have ever heard in my lifetime-so far.
After the speech was over, we took pictures, ate, and visited with more bloggers and some company representatives. I was really happy to meet Tara from Lijit, who’s search feature I have on my blog. She gave us the only bling from the night, a Lijit T-shirt, so thanks Tara!
I met some local bloggers who I have talked with on Twitter before, such as Crunchy Green Mom, and met bloggers I was not aware of (but are now) such as Laura from LaLaGirl (a mother of five, who has TWO sets of twins!)
We also met the husband and wife bloggers behind My Left Nutmeg, who were chosen as the ONE political blog from the state of Connecticut to blog at the Convention. Julie and I left a guest post on their blog, and Tessa, let us use her laptop to check in on Twitter.
We didn’t want to go home, but we didn’t want to miss the last bus back to the suburbs, so we left a little before midnight. The bus we wanted to take was packed, so we waited about 15 minutes to take another one. We at least had a seat on this bus, but it made a lot of stops. After driving back from the bus station, and then back to our town, it was 1:30am!
I had a lot of fun though, and it was wonderful getting to go out for a night (thanks Joe!), with my friends, and being able to make some new friends as well.
I forgot my camera, but Amy e-mailed me the pictures that she took, so here are some shots from last night:

The three ladies at the top are Amber, Lilith, and Laura.
P.S. If you are a regular blog reader of mine, then you may have picked up on something that I never have done before on my blog, but did in this post. Can you guess what it is? Leave me a comment or e-mail me. I’ll give a special shout-out to you if you noticed what it is. 🙂

last night was a blast. we need to get out more often. 🙂
and i wondered if u’d write abt this since it does give away a bit of info. ;oP
Sounds and looks like fun!!
I can’t believe you haven’t used public transportation before. I didn’t own a car until I was 23 (and we bought this house when I was 21)! The kids think riding the bus into Dad’s work is the best thing since DisneyLand. Cheap thrills!
Hmmmm…new thing….is it the RSS link a the end of your post?
Ah, so you own the shoulder I was leaning over while talking to Crunchy Domestic Goddess! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to talk with you, but I didn’t want to interrupt your writing. Hope to chat with you and more of the Mile High Mamas at the gathering coming up!
So glad to have met you (and the other ladies) last night. I had a great time and always love it when I get to hang out with cool Colorado bloggers.
Enjoy your Lijit shirt and if you ever have any questions about your search widget, feel free to send them my way. I’m tara at lijit dot com.
It was soooo fun to meet you. And I am impressed with how organized you are. I hope to get a summary of everything up by the end of next week. 🙂
sounds like it was a fun night – and how fun to meet so many other bloggers!
I picked up on it immediatley…you finally gave away the area in which you live!! Brave girl… 🙂
Our Blogs, like our kids, need to be protected as they grow. P.U.B. [Publishers Union of Bloggers] has pending inquires to Widget Providers concerning how they generate their income and what percentage of this income goes to the Blog Publisher making the critical decision to allow a Widget on their site for their readers. In addition we are requesting transparency on the critical issue of how the private statistic from Publishers Blogs are being used, hopefully with the Publisher’s permission!
Before you just post and point publishers to these widget options, consider the content we create as bloggers valuable. For example, who is representing us for the VALUE of this data the Lijit widget is both searching and claiming rights too in its terms of use page. Who owns it? What about each individual blogger’s data and the critical sanctity of Publishers private statistics. We at P.U.B. consider the safety of the information any app or widget(s) may be gathering, unbeknownst to the unwitting Publisher who installs them.
P.U.B. [Publishers Union of Bloggers] has made direct inquires to both Lijit Senior executives and the venture capitalists investing in Lijit concerning: Ownership of content/ how Lijit generates income and what percentage of this income goes to the Blog Publisher making the critical decision to allow a Widget on their site for their readers. In addition we have requested transparency on the critical issue of how the private statistic from Publishers Blogs are being used.
P.U.B. expected to hear back from Lijit on these financial and private statistics issues from P.U.B’s first inquiry we sent to Lijit in mid April 2008. So far all we’ve read is a public blog response(s) from Lijit advising 1) Lijit has no money, then 2) emails from Lijit’s CEO, Todd Vernon, attacking P.U.B. and falsely accusing we are writing fictitious emails. Any actual answer to PUB’s questions about the use of Publisher’s stats, or revenue as it applies to Lijit? Nada. Nothing.
P.U.B.’s job is to fight for Publishers asking hard questions and demanding answers. If all Widget companies respond as Lijit’s done up to this point, P.U.B. has a big workload for our Publishers, and your membership and support helps us all as Publishers, thanks.
If P.U.B. or our Blog Publisher membership ever gets a straight answer on topic from Lijit, not smoke and mirrors, we will let great Blog Publishers like you know their exact revenue/statistics use/sharing deal. Currently we are also working with Blog Publishers to track performance hit evaluations of Lijit installations, and of course the critical issue of actual ownership of content pulled by Lijit from our blogs.
Will publish these results to keep the community of Blog Publishers informed on this critical component of Widgets on our Blogs.
Sincerely,
Barney Moran
